The participants in the HillBilly Contest will start on Sunday. Each candidate brings two ingredients that are characteristic of the region he/she comes from and with which he/she likes to cook. One ingredient of this is used per dish. Each participant receives a competition folder. It contains a map with a selection of our suppliers, producers and wild picking spots. All within a radius of approximately 60 kilometres around De Librije. There will be six Mercedes * with a driver ** available to drive around the participants and their assistants. The assignment is to collect ingredients from these suppliers, producers and farmers and to be back at De Librije at 4.30 pm.
Special thanks to Wensink Mercedes-Benz* and Corée Chauffeursdiensten**.
This year we want to be extra special because of the anniversary edition of Chefs(R)evolution. In previous years, the chef only brought an assistant. Now he or she is also asked to bring his or her maître or sommelier. Where the chef and the assistant take care of the food, the maître provides 2 matching drinks: 1 cocktail and 1 wine. The duo is thus expanded to a trio.
The participants have one hour and a half to work technically on the two dishes and to make all preparations. They are allowed to use all equipment from Librije’s Atelier. Afterwards, all products will go into a cool box and will be stored safely. On Monday, these cool boxes are taken to a location on the BOERenmarkt XL in the afternoon. At this location, the participants and their assistant have two more hours to prepare the two dishes for 4 people on a Big Green Egg Large with various accessories.
Finally, the dishes are assessed by a top jury. The award ceremony will take place the same evening on the stage of Theater De Spiegel. The winner of the HillBilly Contest will take home the Big Green Egg XXLarge worth of € 5,995.
